Enhancing Cycling Experience Cycling through the Trees

The Cycling through the Trees project by Burolandschap introduces a unique addition to Limburg’s cycling route network, offering cyclists an extraordinary experience amidst nature. Spanning 700 meters, cyclists traverse a cycle bridge shaped like a double circle, with a diameter of 100 meters, gradually ascending to a height of 10 meters before descending, providing a thrilling 360° panoramic view.

Sensory Journey Amidst Nature

Designed for safety, the one-way cycle path features a subtle wire net with a handrail, ensuring a secure journey for cyclists and walkers alike. The bridge, supported by 449 distinctive columns crafted from weathered steel, mimics the appearance of pine tree trunks, seamlessly integrating into the surrounding forest landscape.

Harmonizing with the Environment

The project prioritizes the preservation of flora and fauna, with careful consideration given to the design and construction process. Respect for nature guided every aspect of the project, aligning seamlessly with the Bosland ‘Cycle of Life’ initiative. Even the trees cleared for the cycle path found new purpose in the construction, repurposed into an information pavilion at the route’s outset.

Symbolic Representation

Symbolism abounds in the design, with the cycle bridge’s columns representing the majestic fir trees that once stood in the forest. This thoughtful integration ensures that the structure not only provides a captivating experience but also pays homage to the natural environment it inhabits, creating a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.
