The Paprocany lake holds significant importance for its residents, serving primarily as a recreational hub. A recent addition, the wharf, connects the rest center with an area frequented by sailing clubs and the Municipal Youth Sports Center’s (MOSM) canoe section. However, due to the deteriorating condition of existing structures, the city embarked on constructing a new sailing marina and facility for MOSM, with the canoeing training center being the initial phase.
A Legacy of Success
The canoe section has garnered notable achievements, boasting members like Karolina Naja, a double Olympic medalist. In our design of the promenade, we prioritized extending the wharf to accommodate the planned sailing marina, consequently integrating the new canoeing training center.
Integrating Functionality and Aesthetics
Situated alongside the water, the main promenade features raised wooden seats, concealing the building walls while serving as tribunes during canoeing events. Fire safety considerations dictated the use of grey fiber-cement boards for the back wall. Functionally, the building comprises two parts: training facilities and storage, each under a common roof adorned with plants. Green slopes surround the structure, enhancing its integration with the natural landscape.
Enhancing Public Space
The design also incorporates an additional pathway on the roof, offering panoramic views of the lake. This innovative approach transforms the space in front of the building into an attractive public area, seamlessly blending with the wharf and inviting community engagement. Consequently, the canoe section gains visibility, attracting new audiences, fans, and potential participants, thus fostering transparency and accessibility.
In essence, the Canoeing Training Center MOSM not only revitalizes the Paprocany lake area but also serves as a catalyst for community engagement, promoting sportsmanship and recreational activities in a scenic and functional setting.
