Situated within Changqi Ancient Village, Lubao, Foshan, Guangdong Province, the Changqi Stadium Bamboo Corridor emerges as a beacon of tradition and innovation. Recognized as one of the earliest ancient villages in Guangdong Province, Changqi Village boasts well-preserved Lingnan gable buildings, retaining its authentic ancient charm amidst modern development. With a rich heritage of bamboo weaving, Lubao Town provides the perfect backdrop for this architectural endeavor.
Embracing Local Craftsmanship
The project aims to revitalize the village by repurposing an old basketball court into a vibrant bamboo gallery. Drawing inspiration from the local bamboo weaving tradition, the design integrates traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. The structure, replacing the original stands, offers shelter from the elements while preserving sightlines for basketball activities.
Innovative Design
Utilizing traditional bamboo materials, the design features umbrella-shaped cantilevers, creating a visually striking and functional space. The translucent covering allows light to filter through, casting mesmerizing patterns of light and shadow. By employing two-dimensional curved surfaces, the construction achieves structural integrity while showcasing the beauty of bamboo craftsmanship.
Community Collaboration
Construction of the corridor engaged traditional artisans, student volunteers, and local villagers, fostering a spirit of collective effort and rural revitalization. The process not only celebrates traditional techniques but also infuses the village with renewed vitality. Upon completion, the corridor has become a focal point, attracting villagers, tourists, and enthusiasts alike.
Renewed Identity
The Changqi Stadium Bamboo Corridor stands as a testament to the enduring allure of bamboo and the power of community collaboration. Its graceful curves and sustainable materials evoke a sense of harmony with nature, while its modern design breathes new life into Changqi Ancient Village. Through this innovative project, tradition and innovation converge, weaving a story of resilience and renewal.
