Crafting Harmony: Lodowato Ice Cream Parlor by Paradox

Designing a building on a small corner plot amidst an existing housing development presented a formidable challenge for Paradox. Situated near Lake Paprocany in Tychy, the location offers excellent exposure and close proximity to a popular leisure resort. Leveraging the context and surroundings, Paradox aimed to create a space that seamlessly blends with the environment while maximizing its potential.

Integrating with the Surroundings

Understanding the importance of context and exposure, Paradox sought to harmoniously combine these factors to optimize the site. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding single-family houses, each with its unique features, the design concept revolves around two solid structures that pay homage to the neighboring buildings. A base solid, finished with black and expanded mesh, forms the foundation upon which two distinct “houses” are placed. This division reflects the building’s various functions while maintaining visual coherence.

Attention to Detail and Materiality

Despite the complex form of the structure, Paradox prioritized uniformity and quality in the choice of materials and finishes. Each solid is meticulously covered to minimize details and create a cohesive aesthetic. The facades, roofs, and colors echo the existing environment and corporate identity, ensuring a seamless integration with the surroundings.

Inviting Entrance and Dynamic Spaces

At the corner intersection, Paradox creates a striking entrance with a panoramic opening, inviting visitors into the premises. The facade, characterized by uniform black expanded metal, serves as a clear marker, directing attention to the entrance zone. Surrounding the building, a dynamically arranged space with round cutouts in the floor adds visual interest without creating barriers, enhancing the sense of openness and fluidity.

A Response to Design Challenges

The Lodowato project exemplifies Paradox’s ability to navigate complex design challenges while maintaining a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic. By carefully balancing the client’s requirements, functionality, and spatial composition, Paradox delivers a space that not only meets practical needs but also enhances the overall experience for visitors.
